David Jonathan Willey was born on 28 February 1990, in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. He is the son of former professional cricketer and umpire, Peter Willey.

Willey made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire in 2009. He currently plays domestic cricket for Northamptonshire and Welsh Fire. The all-rounder previously played for Yorkshire and Northern Superchargers.
