Solheim Cup Format

The Solheim Cup is a biennial women’s professional golf tournament between United States and European teams.

The tournament is played over three days, each consisting of four foursomes matches, four fourball matches on the first and second days, and 12 singles matches on the third and final day.

Foursomes is a match play format where two players from the same team compete against two players from the other. Each team plays one ball, and the golfers play alternate shots until the hole is played out.

Fourball is also a match-play format, but each player plays their own ball. The lowest score from each team on each hole counts for the team, and the lowest score between opposing teams wins the hole.

Singles is a match play format where one player from each team competes against each other. Each player plays their own ball, and the lowest score on each hole wins the hole.

The team that wins the most matches over the three days wins the Solheim Cup. If the two teams are tied after the singles match, the team that won the previous Solheim Cup retains the cup.
